A Tundra Tale Lone Alaskan Gypsy Books Reviews

I fell in love with the characters in this book and even more so the beautiful story portrayed. The author has obviously put a greet deal of thought and craft into all of the characters and the story line. Olive was by far my favorite character trusting her instinct and gift despite what the real world perceives. I highly recommend this novel and know others will enjoy as much as I have.
Read this to see if it's acceptable for my Grade 7/8 classroom library, and I can say that the kids will definitely be a fan of this one. The author captures the beauty and scope of the Alaskan landscape quite clearly and vividly with their writing. Along with this, there is some great Native American Folklore tied in with the supernatural to create a fantastic little story that would be at home in any school library. The characters are lifelike and it's impossible not to be charmed by everyone, especially Sasha's innocence and constantly joyous nature. There's also a little mystery to keep young readers on the edge of their seats.

That being said, I have a few issues with the novel. The first is that there's an overuse of adverbs, as well as a few pieces of repetitious dialogue. That being said, there are zero grammatical or spelling errors, and with more careful editing with regards to those issues, I probably would have bumped this up to a 5 star review.

In conclusion, this was a great book, and would be at home in any classroom library, keeping any young reader entertained, as it caters to children and educators alike with its emphasis on folklore, the supernatural, a fantastic setting, and a great cast of characters.
The protagonist, Olive. A 20 year-old woman resident of a psychiatric hospital in Alaska. Inside this hospital you have Sasha, a young girl who proclaims to possess the ability to see the dead. Sasha sees a dead girl called Charlotte, nobody believes her. However with time signs show; things get a little weird. This is just the beginning of this paranormal thriller.

Olive believes Sasha and together they run away to a cabin in the tundra where an older trapper named Konni resides. Together with their white fox Aurora they learn that there is a black 'demon-esque' wolf. As the book goes on, you learn more about the wolf and its ties Olive and Sasha.

The book contains alot of Alaskan folk lore tied into it. You will find many superstitious Arctic meanings and references. This book is appropriate for ages 8 and up, however you will find the reading level to stretch 7th and 8th grade. It does contain minor violence however that is to be expected inside the fantasy genre.

This book no matter how you interpret it will make your mind think. Containing religious references to spirituality, Christianity and Paganism this book will show you how religion can bring people together, or tear them apart. When interpreted for it's more psychological reasons it gives a interesting idea of schizophrenia. This book will leave your mind to it's own devices and question the very world that we all live in.

If you want a great read that will make you think, question humanity, religion and spirituality on many levels, look no further. A Tundra tale is amazing read for all ages.
Wonderful book!
A great book! I enjoyed reading this tale from a great storyteller.
Prompt and effecion, just what I needed.
This is the second book I've purchased by this author, the first being The Dancing Salmon. Very well written stories of life in the North. My Grand Daughter very much enjoyed both books.
This book keeps you reading. Plus, it has some knowledge non-Alaskan natives learn about what it's like to live in this tundra state. Easily transfers you into another world, the storyline, like any good book should.
