Phillipa, also lovingly known as Flip, is not your typical socialite. She prefers reading over flirting, and museums over soirees, unlike her beautiful and well sought-after older sister, Olivia. When Flip gets the chance to meet an adventurer and author of two of her favorite books, she discovers that his expeditions aren’t the only things about him that arouses her.

Bennette Wolf was presumed dead, but that was not the only shock he got when he returned to London. He was also shocked to learn that his former associate, David Langley, who’d left him for dead, had ruined his reputation by stealing his journals and claiming his fame as an explorer and author, and leaving him looking like the fool tag-alone. Determined to reclaim what’s rightfully his, he sets out to destroy his nemesis. However, once meeting Phillipa, his plans of being savage are turned into honorable attempts, while he introduces her to a life outside of her home, books, and living in her sister’s shadow.

This rushed romance leaves readers wanting for more. Bennette has traveled the world and been involved with many women, yet somehow, just the sweet sound of Flip’s voice and the lemony smell of her skin is enough to steer him into obsession. The author gives us nothing prior to him declaring she’s the one, to understand why he MUST have her. As the story unfolds, I did become quite fond of Phillipa, but there is not much attachment prior to Bennette declaring he plans to marry her. Had it been for the usual historical romance reasons – it’s good for the family, we were promised to each other as kids, etc. this would’ve been acceptable, but considering he didn’t give a damn about society’s rules, the intended betrothal was based purely on his intense attraction to her, which came out of nowhere.

Also, the romance between Olivia and John, Benette’s good friend, was more of a way to add words to the story, than it was a subplot. Nothing ever became of it. Although I finished the story, and was pleased by the climax and eventual union, as a whole, the development of the romance is lacking sustenance.

The fist few chapters come across as nothing more than a lesson on etiquette with a love story as an example.

The Care and Taming of a Rogue The Adventurers' Club Book 1 edition by Suzanne Enoch Romance eBooks Reviews

I absolutely love Suzanne Enoch she has never written a bad book and this one is no different I love the story of the adventurer coming hone and finding out everyone thought he was dead. Hmmmm I guess you'll have to buy it to find oiut the rest.
This was a delightful romance. Bennett, an adventurer who has spent many years exploring other countries, does not like following the rules of polite society. When he meets Phillipa, he is unable to restrain his enthusiasm for her. This definitely leads to some pretty humorous conversations and situations. I smiled and chuckled quite a few times while reading this book. Phillipa has to wrestle with the idea that Bennett really does care for her, especially since she has had no other suitor before. And Bennett has to not only clear his reputation, he also has to figure out what his instant attraction to phillipa really means.

I really did enjoy this book. My only complaint is that I prefer to see a relationship develop slowly rather than have the hero and heroine fall instantly in love/lust with each other. But for others this may not be a problem. Once Bennett's nemesis, Langley, comes to town, the action really does pick up. This is a lighthearted, enjoyable read that took me no time at all to finish.
This is the first time that I've read any of Suzanne Enoch's books. This is one of the adventurer series. From the beginning to the end of the book, I was enthralled with the two main characters, Phillipa and Bennett. Captain Bennett Wolfe just arrived in London. He had explored Africa and Egypt. Next would be a three-year expedition of the Congo, sponsored by the Africa Association. He came back to London with a monkey named Kero. She was only two-weeks old when Bennett was purchasing supplies and saw Kero in a cage. He purchased her, nursed her on goat's milk, and she survived. Kero thinks Bennett is her mother.

Captain David Langley was on the same expedition as Bennett. Bennett was hit with a poison spear on his side. He was seriously wounded when David left him and Kero to die on the river. David stole his discoveries, papers, Journals, maps and sketches that belong to Bennett and the Africa Association. David when back to London told everyone that Bennett is dead. He didn't say anything to the Africa Association that he had Bennett's journals. David wrote several books and was making money off of Bennett's discoveries.

Five months later, Bennett recovered from his injury and he and Kero went to London to get back his Journals. When he arrived at his friend's home, Lord Jack Clancy, Jack was shocked to see Bennett. Jack explained to Bennett he had been declared dead five months ago. Bennett thought Captain David Langley. Jack had the reading club members over to his home when Bennett arrived. His quests were reading aloud David Langley's book that was out for weeks. As soon as, Bennett walked into the reading room he was being mobbed. He backed up a step and bumped into Lady Phillipa Eddison, sending her to the floor. He helped her up, and instantly there was a mutual attraction between Bennett and Phillipa.

Phillipa is a bright and intelligent person. She reads a lot, and tends to have her nose in a book. Phillipa belongs to a reading club. Even though Phillipa is a bookworm, she is a prim and proper Lady of the ton who must follow the rules of courtship in the upper class. There is another side of her that's hidden. She likes adventure. Bennett wants Phillipa for his wife. He's having a hard time with the courtship. Bennett has been away for three years on his expedition, and never courted a debutante.

The Care and Taming of a Rogue was amazingly thought over. The author did an excellent job with the heroine and hero with great chemistry between them from the moment they met. There were some funny moments such as when Phillipa passed out when Bennett gave her two dozen roses when her parents and friends were present. Adding Bennett's Pet monkey Kero was superbly done.

I recommend!
